The response to Chester Bennington’s death on the music charts has been completely unprecedented in the rock world. On Aug. 4, a total of 11 Linkin Park songs received platinum certifications from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).

Since Bennington’s July 20 death, fans have rediscovered and taken solace in Linkin Park’s music. Two weeks ago, Linkin Park broke a Billboard record with 23 tracks on the ‘Hot Rock Songs’ chart. They also became the first artist to claim the No. 1, 2 and 3 spots on the Billboard Top Rock Albums chart.

Adding to Linkin Park’s mountain of RIAA plaques, 11 songs spanning the band’s career have been certified platinum: “What I’ve Done,” “Bleed it Out,” “In the End,” “Leave Out All the Rest,” “New Divide,” “Burn it Down,” “Numb,” “One Step Closer,” “Shadow of the Day,” “Waiting for the End” and the Linkin Park and Jay-Z collaboration “Numb/Encore.”

In the first few days after Bennington’s death, Linkin Park’s album and song sales surged by an incredible 5,332 percent. As for streaming, Linkin Park’s plays grew by 730 percent. With so many people consuming everything Linkin Park, co-vocalist Mike Shinoda implored fans to avoid buying Chester tribute merchandise from “scumbag bootleggers.”
