While most children and young teens get excited to receive their holiday gifts, one boy in Middletown decided he wanted to spread holiday spirit of his own. With help from his family, Nicholas Ferguson brought around 150 gifts to a Middletown nursing home.

The gifts were for the residents of this Middletown assisted living center and included toiletries, blankets and other simple comforts. Putting this together was no easy task since gifts for this many people can get expensive. Nicholas and his family went out of their way for two months raising money from their community to bring this Christmas surprise to so many seniors.

This is a prime example why I love The Hudson Valley. Too many people spend time complaining about what they don't like about their home and this youngster decided to be a reason why this is a great place to live! I applaud this selfless act and hope it inspires the good in all of us.
