Some quick-thinking troopers sprung into action when they say a despondent local teen threatened to jump from an overpass.

HVNN reports that the teen was perched atop Route 17 on the Mamakating Road overpass when Wurtsboro troopers approached him. Officers say the boy indicated that he was depressed and wanted to jump from the bridge.

The New York State Troopers engaged the boy in conversation as he sat dangerously close to the edge of the bridge. Using their training, the officers were able to calm the youth down and take him into custody without incident.

The boy is now being evaluated by mental health professionals.
