Two of the Hudson Valley's most popular supermarket chains have announced a merger. How will this affect the way you do grocery shopping?

The Poughkeepsie Journal reports that the owners of Stop & Shop have agreed to merge with the company that owns and operates Hannaford supermarkets. The deal will create a new mega-company that will serve over 50 million customers a week and be worth over $29 billion.

The merger of the two parent companies, Royal Ahold NV and Delhaize Group, will affect 6,500 stores. The Hudson Valley has approximately 20 supermarkets that are either a Stop & Shop or Hannaford Supermarket. There is no word on how the merger will affect existing stores when it is completed next year.

We want to know what you think. Are you afraid that the merger will limit your choices when grocery shopping?
