2 Women Held in Dutchess County Jail After Allegedly Stealing Good Samaritan’s SUV

A good deed by a Wingdale man somehow lead to his red Ford Explorer being stolen and then taken on a wild, two-county pursuit down 684, according to lohud.com.

Police say two Westbury, Connecticut women stole the man's SUV at a gas station on Route 22 in Dover after he had stopped to assist a person who had fallen ill. Troopers happened to be in the gas station, assisting an EMS call, when the SUV sped out of the parking lot down Rt 22. A Dutchess County deputy saw the stolen vehicle and joined in on the pursuit, which went over 20 miles south in to Putnam County on 684.

The stolen SUV struck at least two cars during the pursuit, according to the report. The high speed chase ended after the driver hit a Putnam County cruiser near a median. Both women were arrested, as the ensuing investigation backed up traffic in both directions on 684. Kendra Hinds, 26, and Elizabeth Martinez, 25, were both arrested and charged with two counts of first-degree reckless endangerment, third-degree grand larceny, and resisting arrest. Both were treated at Putnam Hospital Center are being held at the Dutchess County Jail, according to the report.
