It took emergency responders three doses of Narcan to save a man’s life from an apparent heroin overdose in the Hudson Valley

Friday evening, Ramapo Police responded to Chestnut Ridge address for a reported heroin overdose. Officials say as they arrived they found a 28-year-old man unconscious and clutching a hypodermic needle.

Ramapo Police administered Narcan, a drug which is known to reverse the effects from a heroin overdose. After the unnamed man didn’t respond to the first dose of Narcan he was given another dose by members of the Faist Ambulance Corp members.

The male still did not respond and was unable to breathe on his own, authorities say.

Rockland Paramedics arrived on the scene and began a rescue breathing procedure and administered a third dose of Narcan. The male began responding while the third dose was being administered.

The man started breathing on his own and regained consciousness. He was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital for further medical care.
