It looks like there are going to be more winter storms across the Hudson Valley in the beginning of 2017, then we had in all of 2016. So, what do we do about it? Wait for spring? The groundhog said something about having a longer winter so here are a few things that you can do alone, with friends, or with kids to make those days when you are stuck in the house, not so bad.

  • Play in the snow. Get bundled up and take to heart, the whole 'Can't beat 'em, join 'em adage. This could work for people of all ages. Kids love being out in the snow and if you have an 'older kid' aka adult, that is looking for an excuse to join in on the snow activities, look at purchasing some snow shoes.
  • Bake cookies, make soup, pretty much spend some time in the kitchen. When it's cold outside and the kitchen is nice and warm and filling the house up with amazing smells, time will pass quickly and you will be warm on the inside from enjoying the good cooking as well on the outside from the kitchen helping to warm the house.
  • Movie (Netflix) day. Grab the dvd's or turn on Netflix and line up a movie event at your house. Let each person pick a movie or decide together on a theme. Make the popcorn and get it going.

Before you know it, whether it is a few movies later, or a batch of cookies or a few snowmen have taken up temporary residence in the front yard, the snow has stopped and it's time to clean off the cars, driveway, sidewalks etc.

How do you spend your snow days?
