Four Hudson Valley residents, from three counties, were arrested for welfare fraud. They allegedly combined to scam over $25,000.

On Wednesday, Rupert Herdsman and Tana Carter Herdsman of New Windsor, were arrested by the Ulster County Sheriff’s Department and charged with welfare fraud, grand larceny and two counts of offering a false instrument for filing.

A joint police investigation allegedly found that pair failed to report income to the Department of Social Services from Sept. 2014 through Dec. 2015.

This resulted in the Herdsmans receiving $2,816 in SNAP benefits and $17,113.80 in Temporary Assistance for which they were not entitled, officials say.

Kammeisha Stith of Kingston is accused of not reporting income from August 2015 until April 2016. Stith allegedly received $1,089 in SNAP benefits, $1,087.59 in Medicaid benefits and $1,721.50 in Temporary Assistance

Stith was charged on Wednesday with welfare fraud and two counts of offering a false instrument for filing.

Lizette Andino of Staatsburg, was arrested for welfare fraud and three counts of offering a false instrument for filing. She is accused of not telling social services that a child left her home, while she continued to receive $2,764 in benefits over a seven month period.

All four are due in Ulster County court on later dates.
