An undercover operation targeting illegal taxi cabs in Orange County led to six arrests, three cars impounded cars and more.

On Friday, The Monroe Police Department conducted their undercover operation. The goal of the procedure was to find people operating taxi cabs without proper licenses, registrations, or insurance.

Because many illegally operated taxi cabs don’t have the required New York State registrations, they are unsafe to the drivers, passengers, and people outside of the vehicle, police say.

According to Monroe Police, in New York State, it is a crime to operate a for-hire vehicle without the vehicle being properly bonded with insurance. It is also illegal to operate a vehicle for hire without a proper driver's license.

During the undercover operation, officers made six arrests, issued 26 summonses for various New York State vehicle and traffic law violations and impounded three vehicles. Police did not release the names or charges for the six arrests.
