8 Dry Towns in New York

I was DJing a wedding on Saturday in Neversink, which is located in Sullivan County. (Congrats to Julie and Arthur on their marriage.)

While I was at the wedding I learned that Neversink was a "Dry" town up until last year. Dry, meaning that sales of alcohol were not allowed within the town since the 1930's ban, according to Wikipedia.

That changed a bit last year when the town's residents approved a bill that would allow restaurants to sell alcohol but would not allow convenience stores to sell it. The town also doesn't allow any bars from opening, so there are no local watering holes in Neversink.

According to the New York State Liquor Authority, these are the only remaining dry towns in New York state:

• Clymerin in Chautauqua County
• Lapeer in Cortland County
• Orwell in Oswego County
• Fremont in Steuben County
• Jasper in Steuben County
• Berkshire in Tioga County
• Argyle in Washington County
