Memorial Day weekend means family get together's, BBQ's, graduation parties and the Indy 500. You have probably spent time making shopping lists for all of the food that you are going to get, but what about the tasty beverages? Buy them ASAP, so you can get them iced down and ready to drink.

Here are 8 Hudson Valley Beers (ok, two of which are cider) that will go great with what ever you are doing this weekend, in no particular order, they are all tasty.

  • Newburgh Brewing's Checkpoint Charlie. Crisp, refreshing and goes great with BBQ and a few dozen other foods. The Brown Ale & Cream Ale are also worth taking the time to get to know.
  • Sloop Brewing, based in Elizaville. Grad some of their Peach Sour. So crisp and refreshing with pulled pork, macaroni and potato salad. If you head to the brewery, ask them about the Chocolate Baked Milk Stout. I haven't tried it, but it sounds like something I would enjoy getting to know. If you have tried it, email me, brandi@wrrv.com, I would like to know what you think.
  • Suarez Family Brewing, based in Livingston, NY. Anyone of their Pilsner style beers. Depending on the day, they usually have two sometimes three different ones for you to enjoy at the tasting room.
  • New Paltz Brewing, Wawarsing. It might be heavy for most of your guests, but their Rauchbeir, made using smoked grains. Smells like bacon or smoked Gouda cheese. It pairs really well with bratwurst or kielbasa. If you find yourself at the tasting room make sure to try the Maibock (if you like that style and it's available) or the Hefe.
  • Keegan Ales, Kingston, grab the Hurricane Kitty. Not only is it a great beer, there is also a great story as to how Tommy Keegan named it after his grandmother.
  • Chatham Brewing, Chatham, the 8 Barrel, will make your hop head friends happy.
  • Cider One, Weed Orchards Peach Cider. Ok, this is one for those of your guests who wants something a bit sweeter, it even has chunks of peaches in it.
  • Cider Two, Angry Orchard, Which one? Any of the ones that you can get at the Innovation Cider House in Walkill. My personal favorite? The Old Fashioned and the Brittany.
