A police operation, dubbed “Buyer Beware,” in high drug dealing areas led to nine Hudson Valley residents arrests.

On Thursday, the City of Newburgh Police Department and the Orange County Drug Task Force conducted surveillances in high drug trafficking areas in the City of Newburgh. Those who were allegedly seen engaging in drug deals were stopped by officers.

A Norinco 9mm semi-automatic hand gun, crack cocaine, heroin, PCP and marijuana were recovered by authorities, police say. .

Those charged in the “Buyer Beware” operation were:

  • Nicholas M. Palm, 23, of Newburgh: Criminal Possession of a Weapon and Unlawful Possession of Marihuana.
  • David M. Short, 34, of Ulster Park: Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance and Loitering
  • Allison A. Duffy, 25, of Gardiner: Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance and Loitering
  • Giavonni Torelli, 52, of Newburgh: Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance and Loitering
  • Isreal Beltran, Jr., 36, of Newburgh: Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance and Loitering
    Anthony T. Burton, 46, of Newburgh: Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance and Loitering
  • Michael Scott West, 54, of Milton: Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance
  • Lionel B. Pittman, Jr, 27, of Wappingers Falls: three-counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance and Loitering.
  • Nanette A. Olympia, 55, of Newburgh Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance and Loitering.

“I hope theses arrests will serve as a wakeup call to those addicted to drugs and will induce them to get the help they need before something tragic occurs,” Orange County District Attorney David M. Hoovler said. “City residents should not be subjected to drug traffickers and addicts destroying the quality of life in their communities.”
