Nine inexperienced hikers had to be rescued from their Saint Patrick's Day hike due to very snowy and icy conditions in the Hudson Valley.

On Saturday around 4:15 p.m., Dutchess County 911 called the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation for help regarding an injured hiker in the Hudson Highlands State Park Preserve near Mount Beacon.

The responding officer was joined in the search effort with Beacon Volunteer Ambulance Corps and New York State Park Police.

The hiker complained of an injured knee and stated he could not make it down the mountain, officials say.

The hiker’s group including nine people from the Bronx who were hiking an 8-mile loop on the mountain.

Due to heavy snow and the group's inexperience they could not complete their planned hike, according to the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation.

The injured hiker was escorted down Pocket Road and arrived at the trailhead by 8 p.m. The rest of the party was guided down by Beacon Volunteer Ambulance Corps via the Beacon Mountain main trail.

All nine were evaluated, refused medical treatment at the trailhead and released around 9 p.m., officials say.
