A New Paltz man accused of hitting a woman in a domestic dispute allegedly showed up at the home 15 minutes after an order of protection was issued.

Carlos A. Canela, 21, was arrested on Friday after he struck the woman several times and kept her from leaving the area, New Paltz police said in a press release issued Monday.

Canela was arraigned in court after the incident and ordered to stay away from the woman. Some 15 minutes after leaving court, Canela returned to the home and banged on the rear window in an attempt to make contact with the woman, police said.

Authorities found Canela in the backyard of the home and again took him into custody.

Canela was charged with aggravated family offense, a felony, and unlawful imprisonment, attempted assault and criminal contempt, all misdemeanors.

He was remanded to Ulster County Jail in lieu of $15,000 cash bail or $30,000 bond. He is scheduled to return to New Paltz Town Court at a later date.
