Police believe a child's life is in danger after she was abducted by an older man and is either in or traveling through the Hudson Valley.

On Monday around 10 p.m., the Rochester City Police Department activated the New York State AMBER Alert and is investigating a child abduction that occurred on LaSalle Street in Rochester around 7 p.m. on Saturday.

The child, Joanna Coates, 14, is described as being a white girl with brown hair and green eyes. She's about 5'4" and weighs around 100 pounds. She was last seen wearing Timberland boots, a blue Nike shirt and black leggings, police say.

The suspect is 41-year-old Robert Gonzalez. Police describe him as a Hispanic man with black hair and brown eyes who is about 6'0" and 185 pounds.

"THE CHILD WAS TAKEN UNDER CIRCUMSTANCES THAT LEAD POLICE TO BELIEVE THAT THEY ARE IN IMMINENT DANGER OF SERIOUS HARM AND OR DEATH," the New York State AMBER Alert states in all caps.
