Watch Arcade Fire Cover the ‘Beverly Hills Cop’ Theme

One night after treating a Los Angeles audience to a mash-up of Jane’s Addiction‘s ‘Been Caught Stealing’ and Guns N’ Roses‘ ‘Welcome to the Jungle,’ Arcade Fire were at it again last night, giving Jack White some stiff competition for Cover Artist of the Year.

At last night’s show at L.A.’s Forum, the massive Canadian collective played ‘Axel F,’ the theme song from ‘Beverly Hills Cop.’ Before launching into the instrumental song (which Harold Faltermeyer took to No. 3 in 1985), frontman Win Butler jokingly told the crowd, “It was actually written about Axl Rose. People don’t often realize that.”

After giving ‘Axel F’ a spin, the band steered into its own ‘Normal Person,’ a highlight from last year’s Arcade Fire album ‘Reflektor.’

You can watch the video above.

Arcade Fire have been giving fans a ton of memorable cover songs on their current tour, tying the tracks’ original artists to the city the group is playing that night. So, they covered Creedence Clearwater Revival in Mountain View, Calif., Echo and the Bunnymen in London and R.E.M. in Atlanta (yeah, we know those artists aren’t exactly from those cities, but close enough).

And here’s that Jane’s Addiction/GNR medley, in case you missed it:
