The name of the genre is Post-Rock. Post-Rock bands very often have no vocals, they can span the gamut of almost ambient electronic to heavy metal, and these bands use their instruments to create different types of sounds and textures, rather than straight forward strumming for mainstream rock.

I've been a fan of Post-Rock for awhile, and it started with Explosions In The Sky, and went through various states of downer and upper bands. There are TONS of great post-rock bands, and you can find them on the internet.

However, Caspian is some kind of amazing. Formed in Massachusetts in the early 2000's, these guys are on their 5th major album and have been touring on their latest "Dust And Disquiet" for awhile.

Caspian is one of those bands that you can listen to the album the entire way through, and experience it differently every single time. There's no vocals, so it's an entirely new way to absorb and process rock music. You kind of have to make your own narrative and impressions of the songs.

I love this band. They make some of the most interesting, thoughtful and engaging music I've heard in a long time. They're currently in China, but they're touring the US soon, opening for Underoath. THAT, my friends, is an intense show. Their closest date will be April 15th at Starland Ballroom in New Jersey.

Pick a time where you can listen to "Dust And Disquiet" all the way through, without distraction. You won't regret it.
