In the upcoming film Ordinary World, Billie Joe Armstrong of Green Day stars as a punk-rocker-turned-suburban-dad. A newly released scene shows Armstrong having an awkward encounter with one of his heroes, Joan Jett.

The clip, which can be seen above, comes courtesy of Rolling Stone. Armstrong's character, Perry, is talking to an ex-girlfriend (Judy Greer) in a hotel lobby where he spies Jett. Greer reveals that she's Jett's manager and introduces the two of them. Looking for some way to bond with her, Perry says that his "mother-in-law's name is Joan." She leaves by wishing him a good day and adding, "Say hi to your mother-in-law."

Ordinary World is Armstrong's feature film debut. As Perry, he is convinced by his brother (Chris Messina) to have an old-school rockstar party in a fancy New York City hotel on the occasion of his 40th birthday. The film, which also stars Selma Blair and Fred Armisen, will be released on DVD and digital download this Friday (Oct. 14). It includes four new songs written by Armstrong, including the title track, which also appears on his band's new record, Revolution Radio.

Armstrong has apparently been bitten by the acting bug. He's planning on playing St. Jimmy in the film adaptation of American Idiot, the musical based on Green Day's hit album. Armstrong occasionally played the role during its one-year run on Broadway.

Green Day only have a handful of shows left on their U.S. club tour. But they'll be back on the road beginning March 1, 2017 playing arenas across North America. You can see all the dates here.
