A body of a man has been found near rail road tracks in Columbia County.

According to the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office the body was located around 8am Monday morning just north of the Germantown boat launch. Officials says the body was discovered by an Amtrak crew member who was inspecting the tracks off of Anchorage road.

Columbia County Sheriff David Bartlett tells ABC News 10 in Albany that they looking into whether the man was hit while walking along the tracks.

“We’re in the very beginning stages of the investigation, and we’ll follow it through,” Bartlett said. “It’s not the first time we’ve had some type of incident on the railroad tracks, and unfortunately, it won’t be the last.”

The Sheriff also stated that foul play has also not be ruled out,

“Any kind of death investigation, it’s always suspicious until we determine otherwise,” Bartlett said. “We have to treat every death investigation like a homicide until we determine that it’s not – whether it’s accidental or suicide. That’s the way every death investigation is done."

According to the Sheriffs office the identity of the victim is being withheld pending notification of the family. Anyone with any information about the death is asked to please contact police at 518-828-4316.
