Brandi's wine of the week. A red blend from one of my favorite wineries.

I was really excited when I went into my local wine store last night looking for a bottle to have with meatballs and sauce and spotted this gem.

"Shebang Eighth Cuvee" is from one of my favorite wine makers (and Vassar College Alum) Morgan Twain Peterson of Bedrock Wine Co.  It is a blend of Zinfandel, Grenache, Alicante, Petite Sirah, and Sangiovese. This is what's known as a kitchen sink wine since it has so many different grapes, each playing a key roll in the final product.

This is a wine that is great for casual enjoyment, meat dishes, rich cheeses, grilled meats. etc. It has great luscious upfront fruit with a long finish, and a touch of "spice" to keep your palate wanting to try yet another sip. It also comes in at a price point that makes it ok for a weeknight. I paid $14.99 for it, but I found online pricing varying from $12.99-$15.99. I will be going back to grab another bottle.

Here's what the "REAL" wine people have to say about it:

Best of 2014: Greatest Value Wines of the Year
"This is becoming one of the hottest red wine values in California. Made by Bedrock Winery’s Morgan Twain-Peterson. This killer offering admirably demonstrates what field blends of Mediterranean varietals and old vines can achieve in California. Drink this beauty over the next 1-3 years."~Robert Parker

"This modern facsimile of an old-time California field blend, made from multiple vineyards and multiple vintages, is spicy and savory and just plain delicious. Unlike many inexpensive California wines, it’s not sweet, oak-flavored or simple. You could call it an inexpensive adult wine, not especially complex but great for burgers, sausages and pizza." ~ Eric Asimov, The New York Times

(46% Zinfandel, 40& Grenache, 5% Alicante, 5% Petite Sirah, 4% Sangiovese) "This is a delicious blend that is spicy and full bodied. It's a fun wine that is perfect for everyday drinking but also has some serious pedigree. The base for Shebang! comes 100+ year old vines from the Bedrock Vineyard."~Distributor Notes
