City of Poughkeepsie Mayor Rob Rolison announced Friday that a Public Arts Commission has been created for the City of Poughkeepsie.

The commission was created by executive order and holds the purpose and authority to advocate for the role and culture by expanding community awareness and the presence of art in various ways.

The Mayor, along with Arts Mid-Hudson and City Council member Matthew McNamara led the creation of this Commission at the request of the Arts community, in efforts to build a direct linkage between City government and the Arts.

Linda Marston-Reid, Executive Director of Arts Mid-Hudson said:

On behalf of all in the Arts community, we applaud Mayor Rolison on his executive order in creating the first City of Poughkeepsie Public Arts Commission. The Commission will promote public participation and strengthen the local economy by attracting and promoting local artists, encourage cultural tourism, and create opportunities for training and employment in a range of creative fields.

The commission will consist of seven members: threee appointed by the Mayor, three appointed by the Common Council, and one will be appointed by majority vote of the Commission.
