The City of Poughkeepsie Police force is getting some reinforcements in 2016 thanks to a recently approved federal grant.

The Poughkeepsie Journal reports the $625,000 grant was announced Monday by mayor John Tkazyik. This will lead to the hiring of five more officers and will fill four existing vacancies for a total of nine new officers on the beat.

While this is good news, in the short term, the impact felt could be minimal. Getting new officers on the street takes approximately six months.
