During the acoustic portion of their show at Philadelphia's Lincoln Financial Field on Saturday (Aug. 6), Coldplay's Chris Martin let his bandmates take a breather as he performed Bruce Springsteen's "Streets of Philadelphia." You can watch the performance above.

Already one of Springsteen's sparsest songs, Martin took it even step further, using a looping pedal to create an instrumental track with his acoustic guitar over which he sang. After the bridge, he played a brief solo that he also looped through the rest of the song.

Written for the 1993 Tom Hanks-Denzel Washington movie about a corporate lawyer who contracts HIV/AIDS, Philadelphia, "Streets of Philadelphia" marked the first time Springsteen had composed a song for a movie. It reached No. 9 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart while winning an Academy Award for Best Original Song and four Grammys -- Song of the Year, Best Song Written Specifically for a Motion Picture or Television, Best Rock Song and Best Rock Vocal Performance.

Coldplay are taking a few weeks off from their A Head Full of Dreams tour, which was highlighted by a triumphant headlining slot in front of 100,000 fans at the Glastonbury Festival. The group will re-convene on Aug. 20 at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, Calif., and stay out for two more weeks before wrapping up at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif., on Sept. 3. After that, the only shows on their schedule is a December tour of Australia and New Zealand. You can see their complete calendar at Coldplay's website.
