Governor Cuomo is said to be signing a ban on a controversial practice that some New York pet owners have been flaunting on social media. It's kind of crazy this law even needs to be passed, but soon pets' tattoos and piercings will be illegal in NY.

The Daily News reports that on Monday, Governor Cuomo will be signing legislation outlawing the practice. Cuomo told The Daily News:

This is animal abuse, pure and simple... I’m proud to sign this common-sense legislation and outlaw these cruel and unacceptable practices once and for all in New York.

The bill was first introduced by Assemblywoman Linda Rosenthal back in 2011. She said something needed to be done after learning of a woman who was selling “Gothic kittens” online. The cats came complete with piercings on their necks, ears and spines.

A push to pass the legislation was renewed back in March when Brooklyn tattoo artist Mistah Metro posted a photo of his dog being tattooed on Instagram. The photo has since been taken down, but originally had a caption that read "One of the many reasons my dog is cooler than your(s)! She had her spleen removed today and the vet let me tattoo her while she was under."

What do you think? Should pet owners be allowed to tattoo and pierce their pets if they wish? Or do you think this legislation is important to help protect pets from their crazy owners?
