Many, many accidents, some of them deadly, have occurred on a particular section of Dutchess County Route 41, also known as Crum Elbow Road in Hyde Park. If you need to swerve to avoid an on-coming car or deer in the road, there is no place to go. You and your car will end up in the stream that is on either side of the road. Because this stream is almost even with the road, flooding is a problem throughout the year.

Beginning, Monday April 4, the Dutchess County Department of Public Works will begin work to reconstruct the section of Crum Elbow Road between Cardinal Road and Matuk Drive in the Town of Hyde Park. The work is expected to last until the fall with Crum Elbow Road closed to through traffic during this time. Detour routes will be posted. Here's a map of the detour route, thanks to the Dutchess County Department of Public Works.

According to the Dutchess County Department of Public Works, the road will be raised, drainage systems replaced, and the road shoulders expanded. In addition, there will be new guide rails, signs, striping, and a stabilized highway embankment will be installed under the road.

This is great news for anyone who travels this road.
