A Hudson Valley institution files paperwork to close and lay off 22 workers.

Not even discount stores are safe from the recent epidemic of Hudson Valley stores going out of business. Recently we reported that Just A Buck was closing their doors in Wappingers Falls after 20 years in business. Now, it looks like another discount store is planning to close, putting 22 employees out of a job.

National Wholesale Liquidators has filed a WARN notice, announcing that they may be closing six of their locations in New York, including the store in Middletown. The discount store has been operating for years on Dolson Avenue next to the Playtogs Plaza.

According to the notice, layoffs will begin between 30 and 60 days after the liquidation process. As of now, the closing date is still yet to be determined.

Despite the announcement, there still may be a sliver of hope for customers of National Wholesale Liquidators. This isn't the first time that the store has been slated for closing. In 2008 the company filed for bankruptcy and announced the Middletown store would close. The brand was saved and the store has remained open ever since. It's unclear, however, if the store will survive once again.
