Home renovations, updates, or repairs cost enough when the work is done correctly, but the amount can skyrocket if you also have to pay someone else to come and fix the damage done by the person you hired to do it in the first place.

As of today, defrauded homeowners here in the Hudson Valley who were customers of home improvement contractor Daniel McInerney, owner of D Mac Design and Development LLC will get their money back. According to the New York State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman, consumers paid Mr. McInerney thousands of dollars and he disappeared with the money, never completing the work. As a result, he has been ordered by the Dutchess County Supreme Court to pay more than $41,000 in restitution and $17,000 in penalties.

According to the Attorney General's office, one homeowner paid him $18,000 for work that actually caused damage to his home and another has paid almost $30,000 to renovate her bathroom, which includes an additional $19,000 she had to pay to have the work done right.
