City of Poughkeepsie Detective John Falcone was murdered in the line of duty nearly five years ago. On Thursday, Feb. 18, the City of Poughkeepsie will mark the anniversary of his death with a remembrance ceremony.

On Feb. 18, 2011, Falcone was fatally shot by Lee Welch. Welch had murdered his wife, and Falcone brought the couple's 3-year-old child to before he was killed. Welch later killed himself.

A memorial mass will be held at the Church of the Holy Trinity at 775 Main Street in Poughkeepsie on Thursday at 10:30AM. A march will take place at 12:30PM from City of Poughkeepsie Police Department Headquarters at 62 Civic Center Plaza to the memorial site at the Poughkeepsie Train Station on Detective John Falcone Memorial Avenue. A ceremony will be held at the memorial site.

The public is welcome to attend.

A blood drive honoring Falcone will be held on Monday, Feb. 22 from 1PM to 7PM at the Italian Center located at 227 Mill Street in Poughkeepsie.
