With 2 deadly train accidents in the region over the past 2 years, it's important to stress safety around the tracks. A scary incident on Sunday could have ended much worse, had it not been for some quick thinking from the driver.

The New York Post reports, a woman by the name of Cynthia Parent became stuck on the train tracks just off the Saw Mill River Parkway, when the safety gates came down on both sides of the car. She was able to escape by reversing her car and slamming on the gas.

The scene of this near miss is less than 10 miles from the recent fatal crash in Valhalla. A new federal spending bill proposes nearly $200 million in spending to make railroad crossings safer.

It's important to remember to be aware when crossing the tracks to always be aware of your surroundings. Had it not been for a quick reaction from Ms. Parent, we'd have another disaster on our hands.
