Prescription drugs are the second most abused category of drugs in the United States and too often we hear from families of overdose victims that before switching to a more harder drug, such as heroin, they started with pain pills often found in the family medicine cabinet.

If you have medicines that you are no longer taking, please don’t flush them or toss them in the trash. A better way to remove these from your home is to take them to the Prescription Drug Drop-Off Program this Thursday, July 21, from 9 to 1 at the Town of Beekman Town Hall, located at 4 Main Street in Poughquag.

By properly disposing of these drugs, you are protecting our waterways from pollution, protecting our environment, and keeping them out of the wrong hands. Gather up your unwanted or expired medication, drive up and drop off, that's all there is to it.

This Drug Take Back day is sponsored by the Town of Beekman, the Dutchess County Sheriff's Office, and the Council on Addiction Prevention and Education in Dutchess County.
