Medical emergencies and accidents can happen at any time and at any place. What if you, or someone you love, has such an emergency and are by themselves when the paramedics arrive? How will they know about any allergies you may have? What medications do you take? Do you have any prior medical conditions they need to know about?

Seconds count with any accident and they can often mean the difference between life and death. If only there was a way that first responders would have your necessary medical information right then and there. There is, and it's called File of Life.

Your File of Life would have your latest medical information including allergies, medications, contact persons, and more. This life saving file has been recognized and endorsed by hospitals, EMTs, police, senior citizen organizations, and more.

If you want to create a File of Life for yourself, or someone you love, stop by the Staatsburg Library, 70 Old Post Rd., at 4:00 p.m. this Monday, May 23. EMT Dee Sagendorph, from the Staatsburg Fire Department, will lead you through creating a File of Life and provide some general tips about safety in and around the house.

For more information, call 845-889-4683.  If you can't make the presentation, the Office for the Aging has a limited number of the File of Life packets that can be picked up at their offices at 27 High Street in Poughkeepsie during business hours, limit one per person.
