Donald Trump Elected President: Alternative Rockers React

Alternative rockers, like many Americans, are still absorbing the surprise victory of Donald Trump in last night's U.S. presidential election. As such, their reactions represent a pretty wide spectrum of emotion.

Thom Yorke simply shared lyrics from "Burn the Witch," off Radiohead's new album A Moon Shaped Pool, while Arcade Fire's Win Butler made a simple plea for "love and peace to the hopeless today."

Others, like Josh Freese of Nine Inch Nails and Devo, were simply stunned by the results. "There's your guy, America," Freese wrote as the returns came in overnight. "One word, Preposterous. Just utterly preposterous." Band of Horses promised at least one notable set list change. They said they'd be starting their shows with "The Funeral."

A few – but not many – offered a touch of humor. MGMT, for instance, cheekily asked: "Good morning! Just waking up. Any big news stories this morning?" Green Day and Cage the Elephant, meanwhile, let a single image convey their disappointment. Silversun Pickups sent their best wishes from across the pond.

Vernon Reid of Living Colour brought up deep concerns about Trump's possible cabinet selections, and what impact his administration might have on the environment. Okkervil River framed this moment as a call to action: "This is a wake-up call to work harder than ever before, extend love to all, & fight & die if necessary to protect each other & this planet," they wrote.
