Founding drummer Jimmy Chamberlin will re-join the Smashing Pumpkins for their upcoming tour with Liz Phair. The 'In Plainsong' tour will feature the Pumpkins in a half acoustic, half electric format.

Chamerlin has been in and out of the band for years. He most recently played with Billy Corgan last summer when they teamed up with Marilyn Manson for a tour. He was the only original member asked to return to the band when they reformed in 2007, before leaving again in 2009. Joining Chamberlin and Corgan on tour will be guitarist Jeff Schroeder.

The Smashing Pumpkins will kick off the tour in March and will run about a month. The rumor is that Chamberlin will be heading into the studio with the band when the tour wraps. The follow up with be the Pumpkins first album since 2014's Monuments to An Elegy.

The video below features Corgan and Schroeder jamming on Mayonnaise from the Siamese Dream album.
