An off-duty NYPD Officer will serve jail time after he opened fire at an occupied car in the Hudson Valley while drunk.

On April 29, 2014, 29-year-old Brendan Cronin, of Yonkers, spent several hours at a bar on City Island. The off-duty NYPD officer had just finished a day of in-service training at the New York Police Department’s Firearms and Tactics Section at Rodman’s Neck in the Bronx.

After spending a few hours at the bar, Cronin proceeded to drive home. He then stopped and parked his car in Pelham, officials say. He approached a car that was stopped at a traffic light. The car was occupied by two people that did not know Cronin.

According to the Westchester County District Attorney’s Office, Cronin stood alongside the passenger side of the victims’ automobile and fired numerous shots from a 9mm semi-automatic handgun into the victims’ car.

One victim, was shot six times and suffered serious physical injuries, including but not limited to multiple gunshot wounds to his back, shoulder, arm and chest. The victim survived but required multiple surgeries.

On September 22, 2015, Cronin plead guilty to two counts of attempted murder, two counts of assault, and drunk driving.
Wednesday in Westchester County Court, Cronin was sentenced to 9 years in prison.
