A Dutchess County man admitted he robbed a Newburgh bank of about $225,000

On Tuesday in Orange County Court, 27-year-old Joshua De Jesus of Wappinger Falls pleaded guilty to first-degree robbery in connection with the Aug. 24, 2015 armed robbery at the Hudson Heritage Federal Credit Union in the City of Newburgh.

According to the Orange County District Attorney’s Office, De Jesus, along with another unidentified man, waited outside the Hudson Heritage Federal Credit Union until the first two employees arrived to open the building. De Jesus and his accomplice displayed a gun and a knife, which they exchanged between them at different times during the robbery.

The pair ordered the employees to let them inside the credit union. Once inside, De Jesus made his way to the vault and took around $220,000.

A car driven by a third person was waiting outside and took off with De Jesus and his accomplice inside the vehicle.

After an extensive and long police investigation, De Jesus was arrested Town of Fishkill Police on December 17, 2015.

As part of plea deal, the Orange County District Attorney’s Office will recommend that De Jesus be sentenced to 18 years in prison. He’s scheduled to be sentenced on Feb. 21.
