Dutchess County Man Flees Before Being Found Guilty

A Dutchess County man who hit a cop and was found guilty of owning fake IDs is on the run. Police need your help finding him.

On Tuesday in Orange County Court, 30-year-old Kodjo Kondon of Poughkeepsie was convicted by a jury trial of two counts of criminal possession of a forged instrument and resisting arrest.

According to the Orange County District Attorney’s Office, on July 18, 2016, Kondon attempted to obtain a loan at the Hudson Valley Federal Credit Union in the Town of New Windsor using a forged South Carolina driver’s license and false name.

When the Town of New Windsor police were arrived Kondon struck an officer and fled. After he was caught, he was found in possession of a forged Illinois driver’s license in another false name.

Kondon was convicted after a jury trial which ended on Feb. 14. He failed to appear in court on Friday. His whereabouts are unclear at this time.

The District Attorney’s Office is requesting the public’s help in locating Kondon.

Prior to not appearing in court, Kondon was warned that if he failed to appear the jury trail would continue in his absence and that the court could sentence him in his absence, officials say.

Kondon faces seven to 14 years in prison when sentenced on April 4. The sentencing will likely go on as scheduled, even if Kondon is present.
