It happened on Monday afternoon in the Town of Clinton.

According to the Poughkeepsie Journal, an unidentified man suffered facial injuries as he was putting wood into his outdoor wood burning stove, when it exploded.

New York State Police spokeswoman Melissa McMorris told the Journal that, as the man was putting kindling into the stove, he accidentally threw a small box that contained gunpowder into the fire, which caused the stove to explode.

The East Clinton Fire District responded to the call at Story Lane in the Town of Clinton just after 1 p.m. on Monday and extinguished the fire that injured the man and damaged a small wood storage shed. Surrounding area fire departments including, West Clinton, Millbrook and Pleasant Valley also assisted in the call.

The man was transported to a local hospital and according to state police, he was then transported to Westchester Medical Center.
