Additional Information

Poughkeepsie City Ballet has re-invented the wheel. Well, almost. On June 11, 2016 you can jump down the rabbit hole with Alice into the fantastical world of Wonderland first imagined by Lewis Carroll 150 years ago and now re-invented by Poughkeepsie City Ballet into a futuristic steampunk infused rendition. Enjoy tea with the Mad Hatter, croquet with the Queen and a dancing flamingo who tangos on pointe. “This mad family adventure will be filled to the brim with music from Queen to Tchaikovsky, colorful and whimsical costumes and, of course, a fluffy hedgehog or two”, said Susan Santoro, PCB Artistic Director. Students from New York Academy of Ballet will futterwack their way through this magical performance as Juan Cardona, Jr. rounds out the cast working his magic on the Majestic Bardavon Wurlitzer Theatre Pipe Organ with a pre and post-performance concert. “Act II will be high intensity action” said Santoro, “with the Jabberwocky Battle choreographed by Steve Rooks, former principal dancer with the Martha Graham Dance Company.

Susan Santoro and PCB invite the audience to pick their favorite Alice in Wonderland character and dress to impress their way to the Bardavon on June 11, 2016. “We encourage audience costume participation as a way to celebrate the 150th anniversary of a perennial childhood favorite.” said Santoro. A grand prize for best costume will be awarded during intermission at both performances. Performances are at 2:00 and 6:30 p.m. So don’t be late for this very important date. Purchase your tickets today because logic is no match for madness among the delirious denizens of Wonderland.
