Exploding Boat in Hyde Park Brings Waves of First Responders
Dutchess County 911 received several calls of a boat that had exploded and was on fire at the Hyde Park Marina Sunday afternoon.
The boat, fully engulfed in flames was near the gas dock and Fairview firefighters responded immediately and went to work to prevent the fire from spreading to the pump and surrounding property.
The Poughkeepsie Fire Department sent their boat, Marine 1, up from Poughkeepsie to battle the blaze from the river.
Chris Sekul, a recreational boater with over 20 years of boating experience, was on his craft the "One Night Stand" out of Norrie Point and provided pictures of the fire to the Hudson Valley Post.
The firefighters were joined at the scene by Sea-Tow, a marine unit from the Ulster County Sheriff's Office and one of the Dutchess County Sheriff's boats, Enforcer 1.
The boat sank as a result of the fire, the cause of which is currently unknown.
