21-year-old Casey Nocket of Highland NY is the focus of an investigation by federal officials. She has allegedly vandalized eight national sites across five states. According to the SF Gate, Nocket's Instagram account, which is now deleted, led authorities to her.

Nocket's fame spread quickly once her paintings went viral online. Most Instagram users were unimpressed with her "art" and more angry at the fact that she had defaced national landmarks with acrylic paint.

According to the National Park Service, the paintings in question were found near Yosemite’s Vernal Falls, Death Valley, Joshua Tree, Rocky Mountain in Colorado, Colorado National Monument, Crater Lake in Oregon and Zion and Canyonlands in Utah. All of the paintings were signed "Creepytings" which was also Nocket's Instagram username.

Vandalism is usually just a misdemeanor that carries up to a $5,000 fine and a year in prison. Vandalism in national parks, however, carries a much stiffer penalty. It can be considered a felony if the damage is extensive or occurs in specially protected places.

So far Nocket has not been charged with any offense, and is cooperating with authorities, this according to KOIN news.

Another news outlet ran this story:

So what do you think? Is Casey Nocket the next Banksy or is she a vandal? Do you think she should be prosecuted for defacing national parks?
