Beloved Former Hudson Valley Teacher Killed in Georgia

It was just discovered that a man who was killed in Georiga is a former teacher from the Hudson Valley.

On March 9, Arthur Panish, 75, formerly of Pine Bush, was hit by a car at the Interstate 16 on-ramp at North Avenue in Macon, Georgia. He died of massive head trauma caused by the accident two days later.

At the time of his death, no one could identify the body. Fingerprints recently led to Panish's identity, the Telegraph reports.

Panish was born in New York City on January 3, 1943. He taught Spanish at Pine Bush High School, according to his obituary.

At Pine Bush High School, he played Latin-American rock-and-roll music for his students and allowed his class to debate current issues in Spanish, such as "long hair for boys," his obituary states.

He loved to travel and hitched-hiked over some 30,000 miles.

When Panish was killed he was homeless in Georiga. According to his obituary, circumstances led to a life on the streets.

Despite that, "he was a lesson for all who crossed his path. He will be missed," his obituary reads.
