A couple who recently moved from the Hudson Valley is accused of killing their child.

Sharon Carrillo, 33, and 51-year-old Julio Carrillo are accused of killing their 10-year-old child in Maine on Sunday. Sharon was the child’s mother, Julio the step-father.

The couple lived in the Hudson Valley for many years and recently moved from the New Windsor area, sources tell Hudson Valley Post.

An autopsy showed that the child, Marrissa Kennedy, was the victim of what’s called battered child syndrome. Her injuries included bleeding from the brain and a lacerated liver, Time Magazine reports.

The Carrillos beat their child for months and staged a scene to make it appear the death was an accident, according to CBS News.

The Carillos said the 10-year-old fell down the stairs, but later admitted they made the story up, reports Time Magazine.

According to a police affidavit, the couple took turns beating young Marrissa since October.

Both were charged with murder and are being held on $500,000 cash bail.

The Carrillos have two other children who are healthy, according to CBS News. Both were taken by the Maine Department of Health and Human Services.
