This month a first of its kind Ranger School will begin at Fort Benning.

10th Mountain Division Capt. Michelle L. Kelly will be among the women who have a rare chance to make history by wearing the coveted Ranger tab.

Kelly, 37, grew up in Chatham in Columbia County and has been training very, very hard to get herself ready for the challenge. She is currently stationed at Fort Drum in Jefferson county, according to the Watertown Daily Times.

The course follows the 2012 decision to lift the ban on women in combat roles. The services have by 2016 to integrate women into all jobs, unless full reasoning for the exception is provided.

Graduates of the new class will not be eligible to join the Army's 75th Ranger Regiment, but they have the honor of completing one of the services toughest challenges.

Congratulations 10th Mountain Division Capt. Michelle L. Kelly on this honor!
