School is out but Poughkeepsie children who depend on free or reduced priced lunches won’t go hungry this summer.

Despite the summer heat, cooks are inside the Poughkeepsie High School cafeteria slicing, dicing, and preparing fresh food for the children of Poughkeepsie.

The Summer Food Services Program is federally funded and provides a no cost breakfast and lunch to City of Poughkeepsie children, 18-years-old or younger.

The program was created to make nutritious meals available to students who don’t have access to school meals during summer. There are no forms, residency or citizenship rules.

A typical meal may include a sandwich, fresh fruit, salad, juice, and milk.

Last summer in the City of Poughkeepsie, around 60,000 lunch and breakfast meals were provided.

If you have any questions about the Summer Food Service Program, please call David Dunn, Director of Food Services for the Poughkeepsie City School District, at 845-451-4780 or email Chef Dunn at ddunn@poughkeepsieschools.org.
