SAUGERTIES - The third time was a charm for the Spackenkill baseball team. Of course the first and second times were charms as well!

For the past three years now, the Spartans have won the Mid-Hudson Athletic League championship. The most recent came on Saturday after a 3-2 win over Marlboro.

The Iron Dukes beat Roosevelt 5-2 to earn the right to play in the championship; Spackenkill beat Webutuck 4-0 on a no-hitter by Josh Roasario in their semi-final match-up.

In the championship game, Spackenkill broke the ice early when Justin Etts led off with a double and came home on a single by pitcher Mike Hovermill. The Spartans scored again in the fifth with the same scenario; a double by Justin Etts and a single by Hovermill for what would prove to be the game winner.

Marlboro picked up a couple of runs in the 4th and 6th innings, but Mike Hovermill kept the dangerously explosive bats at bay and Spackenkill wins the MHAL Championship for the 3rd straight year.
