It was a late Christmas present for Hudson Valley basketball fans; Arlington and Roosevelt matching up in the first round of the Duane Davis Memorial Holiday Tournament.  A gift because this is a rare matchup between two large schools in our area, ever since Roosevelt opted to move to Section 9 from Section 1. and also because the game was filled with entertaining performances and high energy basketball.

Arlington held a very slim lead over the Presidents through the first half, leading 16-14 after the first quarter and 30-26 at halftime.

In the second half the Admirals jumped out to a 10 point lead - but Roosevelt stormed back towards the end of the third quarter to make it a 1 point game 43-42 in favor of Arlington.

But in the 4th quarter Arlington's 6'5 senior forward Brendan Sunday got red hot and hit a couple of clutch points to give the Admirals the separation they would need to pull out the win 72-62.  Sunday scored 23 points, 15 of those points came in the second half. Jon Girard added 20, Mike Ryan had 12, and Dan Schweitzer finished with 10.  Ishmael Chisholm finished with 20 points for the Presidents, including 4 3-pointers. Senior forward Chris Roach finished with 17 points, 12 coming in the first quarter.
