POUGHKEEPSIE - Two state ranked teams met for the first of two meetings within the span of a week.  The Spackenkill Spartans girls basketball team came into the game ranked 5th in New York State and the Millbrook Blazers came in ranked 17th in the state.

Spackenkill won this first meeting 53-43 but the start of this game was a bit rocky for both teams with only 12 points scored in the entire first quarter.

"It looked like a CYO game," reflected Millbrook coach Adam Peek.

In the second quarter, Spackenkill started playing more consistently behind Nina Hartenfels (13 pts) aggressive and fast paced offense. Anna Thompson, the only senior on the Spartans squad, was right behind Hartenfels and finished the game with 15 points including a dramatic half court shot that banked off the glass just as the buzzer was sounding, signifying the end of the first half. Bailey Riley was also in double digits for Spackenkill with 11 points.

Millbrook was led by Olivia Malles and Mackenzie Harkenrider, each with 12 points. The two teams meet up again this Thursday at Millbrook.

Spackenkill is now 11-1; the Blazers are 10-2.
