If you've been driving over the border into New Jersey to get cheaper gas, your days are numbered. According to the Times Herald Record, the New Jersey Assembly passed a measure on Tuesday that would hike the cost of gas by 23 cents. The additional funds will reportedly go towards road and bridge work.

The legislation is expected to be signed by Governor Christie just in time for the 4th of July holiday. But the news isn't all bad, New Jersey sales tax would be reduced from seven to six percent. That part of the plan will begin taking affect over the next 18 months. There will also be a cut in residents retirement income.

With the added tax, it will most likely no longer make sense for New York residents to cross the border to fill up. This could dramatically affect some New Jersey businesses who have come to rely on the traffic. Should the bill be signed into law, New Jersey will go from having one of the lowest gas prices to one of the highest.
