George Barris, a man known by any die-hard Batman fan or car enthusiast, has passed away at the age of 89, according to this Facebook post from his son.

Known for his distinct and unique style of design, Barris is responsible for some of the most iconic and beloved cars of the 20th Century. Though he might be best-known for the Batmobile, his contributions to the customizing culture are numerous, incredible and simply can't be overstated. Merely by creating vehicles like the aforementioned Batmobile, the Munster Koach and the Drag-U-La from the Munsters, cars for The Beverly Hillbillies, Knight Rider, Dukes of Hazzard, and many others, he was responsible for inspiring countless others to expand their perception of the limits of cars.
