New York State Police Troop "F" along with Goshen Town Police responded to a 911 call on Finnegan Lane early Saturday morning after reports of gunshots fired in the area.

Responding officers found Marie Giannone, 55, of Goshen, dead while sitting in the driver seat of her car with multiple gunshot wounds. After a further search of the area, police found Patrick C. Sorrentino of Marlboro, also 55 years old, dead of a single gunshot wound.

The investigation according to police, revealed that Giannone and Sorrentino were romantically involved for over a year and a half and broke up earlier this year, and Sorrentino became angry and withdrawn due to the breakup. Investigators concluded that Sorrentino shot Giannone several times before turning the gun on himself.

Sorrentino was a retired deputy chief from the City of Newburgh Police Department.
